The Party Shoe Style A-Listers Are Wearing 24/7
Saint Laurent's Candy shoes—a stacked, retro platform sandal first introduced when the former creative director, Hedi Slimane, was still heading up the Parisian fashion house—has been a consistently popular piece for fashion buyers over the past year. They defied all of the shoe ideals at the time of their inception: Heels were lowering dramatically, and sneakers had been established as a frontrunner in the wardrobes for the style-aware. Then along came these stompy disco numbers to buck the trend.
Since first hitting shop-floors, they've become a constant presence within the brand's seasonal line-ups, arriving in yet more colourways and now even heights. Yes, they are now stacked more vertiginously than the original five-inch version.
Alexa Chung wore a pair just the other night for her Archive by Alexa launch, and with a sassy tiger-print dress from the M&S collection in question, she looked quite the Studio 54 throwback. She's not the only A-lister taking a pair of platform sandal to parties, red carpets and street style moments alike: From Kendall Jenner to Rosamund Pike, Jenna Coleman to Laura Bailey, stacked heels are set to be this party season's biggest trend—in every way.
