Look: I love being a fashion editor and keeping up with the trends. I really do. But I would be lying if I said that it didn’t get expensive. Styles are coming and going in waves, and my bank account simply cannot keep up. With extremely cute items bubbling up on the scene right now—tops with ruched detailing, flatforms, dressed-up matching sets (see you later, sweats), and puff sleeves, to name a few—I've been searching for spots where I can snag them all for prices that don't make my wallet cringe.
While on my mission to find high-fashion trends on a low budget, I hit up Ellenor Kim, whose cool, casual-luxe looks fill my saved folder on Instagram quite often. Not only is her style swoon-worthy, but she also credits Walmart for some of her favorite outfits. "Pieces I find from the site look more expensive than they actually are, which is always the goal," she tells me. This summer, she's scooping up items from the retailer that will keep her right on-trend. Read the story to see what she grabbed.
"I love a matching set right now," Kim tells me. "I can wear them to all the things I'm beginning to dress up for—brunch, the beach, and date night with my husband."
Not only am I living for the green color of this skirt and top (are bright colors slowly replacing the neutrals in anyone else's closet or is that just me?), but the ruching detail is one that's been making an appearance in various designs these days. It adds a fun, intriguing touch to any piece.
As for shoes? Flatforms are, IMO, where it's at, and apparently, Kim is right on my level with this black and white (ruched!) pair. "I'll definitely be wearing them with dresses or skirts as they're pretty casual but still chic," she tells me. "I actually love to wear something that looks a bit more formal and then dress it down with flatforms."
Puff-sleeve tops are the gift that keeps on giving—seriously. Each year, they just come back bigger and better, and they're not slowing down any time soon. Kim's white, billowy blouse is perfect for every day as it's not too puffy but gives just the right amount of oomph.
I like that Kim kept her look neutral with a pair of black, braided flat sandals and a macrame-style bag. "Braided anything is always a staple for my California style, so you’ll be seeing me in braided sandals with just about all my outfits." And the tan bucket bag Kim used for both looks? It's the perfect summer go-to.
